For my newest Giveaway (which will run for 2 weeks again this cycle) we have The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson. I was actually a little afraid to read this book (because it is about Jack the Ripper, and he freaks me out), but I love Maureen so I took the chance. Let me just say that I'm so glad that I did. I can only hope that whoever wins this, will love it as much as I did!
You can follow Maureen Johnson at www.maureenjohnsonbooks.com or on Twitter @maureenjohnson
The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it’s the start of a new life at a London boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a series of brutal murders broke out across the city, gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific Jack the Ripper events of more than a century ago.
Soon “Rippermania” takes hold of modern-day London, and the police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man police believe to be the prime suspect. But she is the only one who saw him. Even her roommate, who was walking with her at the time, didn’t notice the mysterious man. So why can only Rory see him? And more urgently, why has Rory become his next target? In this edge-of-your-seat thriller, full of suspense, humor, and romance, Rory will learn the truth about the secret ghost police of London and discover her own shocking abilities.

Thanks so much for the giveaway opportunity. This book does sound spine tingling. I was a bit nervous when I read The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova.

OMG, Yesssss! I want that book! I'm a fraidy cat, though. I was scared reading Anna Dressed in Blood. :)
ReplyDeleteMe too! *High five*
DeleteI can't think of any books that initially scared me; I'm pretty hard to scare. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteHarry Potter scared me because Voldemorte was so creepy!! But I soon fell in love later.
ReplyDeleteBasically any of the Stephen King novels scared me--but they were all brilliant :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't really had that experience yet. Hmm...
ReplyDeleteThat happend to me with Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott, it was a lot to me emotionally, but the book has something beautiful. The struggle for living. Thanks for the giveaway!

ReplyDeleteMost of Stephen King's initially scared the crap out of me and yes I came to love many of them. Cujo was actually the scariest.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read any books yet that have really scared me yet.
ReplyDelete:)Jeanne T.
Nevermore by Kelly Creagh scared me. It had a theme to Edgar Allen Poe which was a bit freaky.
ReplyDeleteAnna and the French Blood creeped me initially but it's oh so good.
ReplyDelete*Anna Dressed in Blood!!
DeleteSigh. I'm getting mixed up between my Annas! Anna and the French Kiss and Anna Dressed in Blood, lol.
Any of the Stephen King books. The movies freaked me out and when I first started reading some of his books I was so scared but omg they were amazing. Still creepy but in a good way :)
ReplyDeleteNot really. I remember being afraid of the flying monkeys in The Wizard of OZ when I was a kid but that's about it.
ReplyDeleteCujo scared me the first time I read it and I still love it! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeletePretty much every Stephen King book I've read! Especially It and Needful Things. Creeeepy. But love. :)
ReplyDeleteCan't say I've ever fallen in love with any book that scared me. I remember reading R.L. Stine's adult's book *Superstitious* when I was 14 or 15, and being so scared that I'd jump everytime I heard a noise.
ReplyDeleteI once read a book for school called And Then There Were None. It was kinda scary because all of the people kept dieing, but finding out who murdered them was cool. Because that was what you were trying to figure out the whole book.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little, the R.L. Stine children's chapter books scared me senseless LOL Now I wonder how I ever found them scary :]
ReplyDeleteI agree about The Historian. I absolutely loved that book but was so freaked when reading it. Dean Koontz's books scare me for some reason. But I also got creeped when reading Jennifer McMahon's books. One inparticular is Don't Breathe a Word.
ReplyDeleteStephen King could be scary at times, but I still love him :)
ReplyDeleteI read Stephen King's "Misery" because I was working backstage on the stage play based on it. I was scared even though I already knew the story! Also Poe- especially "The Masque of the Red Death" and "The Black Cat"
ReplyDeleteI was scared of reading Anna Dressed in blood!
ReplyDeleteMost of Stephen King's books have scared me in some way, but there are some that I love.
